Year 11
Dear Year 11 Student,
This year is going to be a very important year for you! It will be your final year in secondary school, making you one of the eldest students in school! We are here to help you with what you will be coming across in the next scholastic year.
As I am sure you are already very aware, this scholastic year you will be sitting for your SEC exams. In order to do this, you must remember to apply for these exams which will be offered to you for FREE from this year onwards! Applications for SEC Exams will open at the end of October and you can apply online through exams.gov.mt. More detailed information about everything that concerns your SEC exams can be found here.
Past papers needed for you to revise are also available for FREE to download from here.
Having said this, you will be given the opportunity to attend various meetings at your own school, and also outside of it, to prepare you for what options you have regarding post-secondary education. These include; Junior College Msida, Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary, Sir M. A. Refalo 6th Form, MCAST, ITS, GEM16+ and other private sixth forms.
If you will not be sitting for SEC Exams, you can still be more informed about the next big step in your life, through college career advisors or guidance teachers at your own school. This can be done by making an appointment with the guidance teachers in your own school who will guide to the next step.
Being such an important year, you must remember that you can find all the necessary support during this journey. You can communicate with a trusted teacher of your choice who will lead you to the guidance teachers. If you need further support, the guidance teacher can refer you to the educational psychosocial team of the college, which consists of different professionals such as the counsellor, career advisor, social worker or an educational psychologist.
We would also like to let you know that if you are facing any kind of difficulties in your life which are not related to your studies, for example, bullying, relationships at home, identity formation or problems with friends, do not hesitate to seek help or advice from the professionals who work in your school and who are there to help you. This can be done through your guidance teachers’ office who are always there for your assistance.
Help is also available during holidays and also once you leave the school. This can be done through the office of your college principal.
You will then have your final school exams in February. These results, along with your assessment in previous years will reflect your School Secondary Certificate and Profile (SSC&P).
After these exams you will have the Easter Recess and shortly after you will start sitting for your SEC Exams which will start in late March and end at the beginning of June, depending on your subjects. SEC Timetables can be found here.
The scholastic year will commence on the 26th of September. The mid-term holidays will be between the 1st and the 5th November. Christmas holidays will start on the 24th of December and school will start again for the second term on the 7th January.
Yearly exams will start on the 12th of February and end on the 26th February.
Carnival holidays will be on the 4th and 5th March whilst the Easter holidays will begin on the 17th April and last until the 25th of April.
